So I check this blog probably once every two months:
And on this blog they linked a mix on this blog:
and this is the mix link:

And it's a good mix. It's got Lawrence, John Maus, Casino Versus Japan. The whole shabangabang.
Maybe someday we'll post something we make, and not just dump more blog shit on you.

Pantha Du Prince and the Bell Laboratory

Last months Øyafestival in Oslo saw the premiere of Pantha Du Prince's Bell Laboratory, which features five bell players and Prince (aka Hendrik Weber) on electronics - thus taking the German Techno Titan's bell fetish to its logical conclusion. No complete audio from the performance has surfaced yet, but photographer Sigurd Fandango has documented the rehearsals and premiere performance in a set of stunning Black and white photos. For more on the story and updates about the Bell Laboratory, check out the feature on RA or head over to Prince's Official Website.

In the meantime, here's a short clip of the performance shot by a fellow fan (Front Row!? so Jealous!)

Thundercat "Shenanigans pt. 1" mix by Flying Lotus

If you loved Flylo's Cosmogramma and you were lucky enough to witness the wonders of his live band on tour in 2010, then chances are you're familiar with the monstrous bass sound of Stephen "Thundercat" Bruner. He has a truly impressive, and all-over-the-place track record. As a former member of Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Groove, he has since contributed to a number of LA based soul and hip hop acts like Eryka Badu, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, and Flylo to name a few. Now he is about to drop his first full length Solo LP, "The Golden Age of Apocalypse," to be released August 30th on Brainfeeder. As a sweet little promo for the upcoming alubm, Flying Lotus has put together a killer mix of Thundercat's work, including newer songs from the upcoming album and past work. Check out the mix, titled "Shenanigans pt. 1" on the Brainfeeder site and while you're at it, check out the trailer for the delightfully retarded French film, "Rubber", with soundtrack by fellow Brainfeeder, Mr. Oizo.

Recommended Listening

Working at a record shop, you hear a lot of people recommend this, that or the other thing. After a while, it seems just too damn hard to keep up with what other people think you should be listening to. But then you'll hear something that reminds you why you should pay attention to what the cool kids are telling you. The mixes found on this soundcloud account are examples of just that- great recommendations I blew off for far too long.

I've never been able to figure out based on descriptions alone whether or not i would like something before hearing or seeing it. so what I'm trying to figure out is what it is that ties together my favorite shit from all corners of the world. this volume comes closer to an answer using deductive reasoning, and concludes that it isn't cops.

Experimental Breakfast

If you live in SF, and you've never been to an art gallery on a sunday morning where people dress up in strange costumes, serve shitty vegan pancakes and waffles, and make experimental noise music, then I suggest you live a little and experience this spectacle before the man takes it away from you.

Modular preps "Since I Left You" reissue

No concrete details have arisen from the rumor mill about the Avalanches highly anticipated follow up to 2001's Since I left You - their first and only full length album -- but based on the status of their website, which has recently been revamped after years of inactivity, and a recent interview with their Label boss, Stephen Pavlovic, it's looking like the new album may actually see the light of day in late 2011 or early 2012... but, then again, we've been duped before... Fortunately, the good people at Modular Records have announced that the label is prepping a special 2-disc deluxe reissue to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the landmark debut album. While no release date has been set, they have given us a list of awesome things to expect: Unreleased early B-sides and demo tracks, remixes from El Guincho, MF Doom, Black Dice, and Jackson and his Computer Band, along with Avalanches remixes of other artists, and more. While you wait, here's an older remix of the title track from StereoLab!

Micromix 13 - Rewind (it's been a while)

So, you may have noticed that we've been on hiatus for a while. We haven't been completely unproductive though -- Our internet radio show on KSFS just finished it's second season and was nominated for best original program in the SF State Broadcasting Dept. If you dig minimal techno, electronica, and house music, give it a listen. We'll also be releasing some podcasts in the near future that are full of new electronica, so don't you worry. In the mean-time, here's a bit of an eclectic catch-up mix of tunes we like, just to let you know we aren't dead. It works good for late night/early morning type listening, but I'm not your dad. Do what you want.

change of plans

The Physics Engine webspace will be changing a bit. Now that we're doing the radio show less frequently there has not been too much to report, but I can't let the blog go to waste so the content is going to shift toward the exploits of the Physics Engine musical collective -- aka "Physics Engine the band," which consists of anybody and everybody, and "Dojo Lion" which consists of Dan, Ramin, and Myself. Of course we'll also highlight musical adventures from all our friends too. I've added more like-minded collaborators to the mix, so expect more silly posts and musical discoveries that go beyond the realm of electronica. I know this is a big step, but I think it will be good for us.
Sinceriously,
-Jon

Stream and/or Download Past Episodes

Hey all,
I've been dogging my radio duties as of late, but now I've finally added some past episodes to the blog. You can stream the episodes by pushing play, or just click the title to download. Easy, yeah? I'm working on getting our playlists up to, but in the mean-time, if you really need to know a song title, just leave a message with the Episode number and time-code and I'll get back to you asap.
Enjoy,
-Jon

Actress Remixes "Surfer's Hymn" by Panda Bear

From the B-side of Panda Bear's latest Kompakt 7" release. Actress, AKA Darren Cunningham, provides a killer remix that compliments the spaced-out Beach Boys vibe that Panda Bear does so well. Bearing little resemblance the original, Actress makes the song his own and uses the unintelligible lyrics of Panda Bear as a sort of vamp to an underwater Atlantis rave. Pick up the limited single at a respectable record store near you before they disappear.

Stop. Wait. Collaborate!

If you're still reeling from Burial and Four Tet's 2009 collaboration, Moth/Wolf Cub, then your ears are are sure to shit their pants when they hear what Radiohead front man, Thom Yorke, adds to the equation. That's right! Burial, Four Tet and Thom Yorke just released a 12" single featuring two songs, Ego and Mirror, via Kieren Hebden's own Text label. Needless to say, the all-star lineup yields some interesting, and highly danceable results. Listen to it here, and on our show, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the all black, unlabeled, limited vinyl release coming to a record store near you.

Dntel reworks Enya. Free Download!

Dntel, aka Jimmy Tamborello, has just released a mini album of soothing, electro-infused, Enya remixes, which he has made available as a free download. I was skeptical at first, because the only thing I know about Enya is that she was always featured on those cheesy Pure Moods Compilations that they sold on tv during the mid 90's, but Dntel's treatment of her washy, angelic vocals makes for a great ambient record that perfectly complements an episode of Bob Ross's The Joy of Painting. Download here.

James Blake "Wilhelm Scream" Live BBC Session

I wanted to play this song on the show last week, but it's so low-key and beautiful I thought it might get lost in the mix. If you haven't heard by now, UK dubstep producer/dj/musician, James Blake, has been generating a lot of buzz for his debut self-titled LP out now on Polydor. We've played alot of his Mount Kimbie remixes and some tracks from his latest string of EP's - out now on the classy Belgian techno imprint, R&S records - but his full length was not what I was expecting. At first listen, his voice is what stood out. It's very similar to Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, but somehow just a tad more delicate and remotely British sounding. The songs are still growing on me. I like this live bbc studio version of "Wilhelm Scream" the best. Also, gotta love the title. Tell us what you think

Geotic

Hey Friends,

Here's some cool, minimal, ambient, electro free courtesy of Will Wiesenfield: http://www.angelfire.com/indie/postfoetus/geotic.html
He goes by the name Geotic and makes some really cool stuff. Some is a bit of a departure from electro (there's some guitars and what not), but I'm guessin if you like The Physics Engine, you'll dig this too.

Enjoy,

J-Boogie (J-Tron, Jordan)
